Objectives of the Center for
Metabolic Regulation of Healthy Aging

“Healthy life expectancy” is the average number of years people live without a health problem that limits their daily activities. The difference between average life expectancy and healthy life expectance represents the years of healthy life that are potentially “lost” to disability. Japan is already a super-aged society and its population continues to age, so reducing the loss of healthy life is an urgent task.

The Center for Metabolic Regulation of Healthy Aging pursues research on aging and healthy aging with an emphasis on metabolism in order to elucidate the mechanisms of aging and develop new preventive and therapeutic strategies, thus contributing to the realization of a healthy aging society.
